Discover the joy of simplicity with this easy and delicious homemade almond milk. Blend, strain, and savor the creamy goodness in just minutes!
Homemade almond milk is a healthier alternative to store-bought versions. It allows you to control ingredients, and omit preservatives and additives, ensuring a purer, nutrient-rich beverage tailored to your preferences.
Have you ever looked at the ingredients on store-bought almond milk? Here are the ingredients to a popular brand name (I won’t mention names):
- Filtered Water
- Almonds
- Calcium Carbonate
- Sea Salt
- Potassium Citrate
- Sunflower Lecithin
- Gellan Gum = food additive
- Natural Flavors = According to the National Institutes of Health, “Can contain both artificial and synthetic chemicals.”
- Vitamin A
- Palmitate = According to the National Institutes of Health, “Palmitic acid has been linked to negative health effects. This includes brain diseases, cancer, and inflammatory responses.”
- Vitamin D2
- D-Alpha-Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E).
Here are the ingredients in this recipe:
- Filtered water
- Almonds
That’s it! Plus, it is so easy to make you’ll wonder why you didn’t try it sooner.
First, you need to buy some raw almonds, I used It’s Just – Raw Whole Almonds. Plus, a nut bag to squeeze the milk out, I used Nut Milk Bags, All Natural Cheesecloth Bags.
The recipe typically yields approximately 4 cups, which can be considered about 4 servings, with each serving being approximately 1 cup.
Now on to a step-by-step recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 4 cups water
- Optional: Sweetener (e.g., honey, maple syrup), vanilla extract, or dates for flavor
Instructions:
- Soak Almonds: Place the almonds in a bowl and cover them with water. Let them soak overnight or for at least 12 hours.
- Drain and Rinse: After soaking, drain and rinse the almonds under cool running water.
- Blend: In a blender, combine the soaked almonds and 4 cups of water. Blend on high speed for 2 minutes until the mixture is well combined.
- Strain: Place a nut milk bag, cheesecloth, or a fine mesh strainer over a bowl or jug. Pour the almond mixture through the strainer to separate the liquid from the almond pulp.
- Squeeze or Press: If using a nut milk bag or cheesecloth, squeeze or press to extract as much liquid as possible. This is your almond milk.
- Flavor (Optional): Add sweetener, vanilla extract, or dates to the milk for flavor. Blend again if necessary.
- Store: Pour the milk into a jar or bottle and refrigerate. Shake well before using, as it may separate over time.
Now you have fresh homemade almond milk ready to enjoy!
