Our son has Type 1 Diabetes, and I also watch my sugar intake even with natural sugars. It is widely known that sugar is bad for anyone with diabetes. People with Multiple Sclerosis must also remove all refined sugars. Refined sugar is a toxin and they should also watch their natural sugar intake.
When consuming fruit that contains high levels of carbohydrates/sugar. The body’s blood glucose levels increase and then drop (like a roller-coaster). It’s best to keep your insulin level throughout the day to keep from getting blood sugar spikes and crashes.
Berries are the best fruits to eat. They are lower in carbohydrates and full of antioxidants. This helps slow down the rapid release of sugar into your bloodstream. Antioxidants regulate oxidative stress and fight off free radicals that destroy brain cells.
Strawberries are on the Environmental Working Group Dirty Dozen list. These fruits and vegetables have the most pesticides. Buy organic strawberries to avoid pesticides.
I like to use Stevia, it is derived from a plant and has been used to sweeten food for hundreds of years. Stevia is much sweeter than sugar, up to 300 times sweeter, so there’s no need to add a lot, 1 tablespoon of sugar = 1/4 teaspoon of Stevia. The best part about Stevia compared to sugar is Stevia has 0 (zero) calories and 0 (zero) carbohydrates. I like to use the brand SweetLeaf, I also like to use the powdered form but you can also use the liquid form.
