Black Friday, the shopping day in the U.S. that has awesome discounts. It’s also a day that marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. It falls on the day after Thanksgiving, which is the fourth Thursday of November.
Black Friday is known for massive retail discounts and promotions. Many stores open early and offer significant price reductions on a wide variety of products. Unfortunately, in some areas, people get crazy and hurt. It was never a day I participated in.
Instead, I like online shopping. It’s convenient, I don’t have to drive in poor weather conditions, and best of all – no crowds. In recent years online shopping has increased and so has the number of days for “Black Friday.”
This means it is a great opportunity to get a head start on your holiday shopping. Also, to take advantage of huge discounts offered by retailers.
One of my favorite shopping sites is Amazon thanks to its huge inventory. This year Amazon’s Black Friday starts today November 17th and goes through Monday, November 27th, 2023.

2. Amazon Echo Devices
Amazon Echo devices are equipped with the virtual assistant Alexa. It’s very helpful for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) in many ways. I own smart devices that hook up to Alexa so she can control many things in my home. Such as my lights, plugs, TV, thermostat, and blinds. I simply say “Alexa, close my office blinds” and they close.
Here are some ways in which Amazon Echo devices can be helpful:
- Entertainment. Echo devices can play music, audiobooks, and podcasts, providing entertainment options that can be enjoyed with voice commands.
- Information Access. You can ask Alexa for information on a wide range of topics, including news, weather, and general knowledge. This is especially helpful for people with mobility issues.
- Reminders and Alarms. Alexa can set reminders and alarms, helping people with MS stay organized and on schedule, especially if you are dealing with memory or cognitive challenges.
- Smart Home Integration. Echo devices can be used to control smart home devices, such as lights, thermostats, and security systems. This makes daily tasks more manageable for people with physical limitations.
- Voice Control. Alexa can be controlled through voice commands, which is useful for people with mobility issues or fatigue.

Mobility aids are there to protect you from falling and getting hurt. After being diagnosed with osteoporosis my doctor convenience me to use a rollator since I was at a higher risk for falling.
