In January 2022, a 20-year study stated the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was the main cause of MS. The Medical Medium has a diet plan that is healing for MS by killing EBV.
I heard about the book Medical Medium by Anthony William when it first came out. I didn’t read it because I was more interested in focusing on diets for MS. At that time I was following a Paleo diet along with a Candida diet.
After the study came out stating EBV is the main cause of MS, I decided to read his first book. In the book, he talks about what causes MS and how to heal. He says EBV and heavy metals cause MS along with other cofactors. Remember, his first book came out before the release of the 20-year study.
You can read about the study here:
After reading his book, Medical Medium, I realized he focuses on a plant-based diet. The popular Mediterranean diet is a plant-based diet. Worldwide, people who live the longest eat a diet that is mostly plant-based.
Medical Medium Foods To Avoid
Like other diets for MS, the Medical Medium says there are certain foods to avoid. Not only for MS but for all illnesses.

Foods to avoid on the Medical Medium diet:
- Artificial flavors
- Artificial sweeteners
- Dairy
- Canola oil
- Citrus acid
- Corn
- Eggs
- Farmed fish
- Gluten
- MSG
- Natural flavors
- Pork
- Processed beet sugar
- Soy
Eggs are a little controversial. Some MS diets say eggs are okay to eat, while others like the AIP and Wahls diets say to avoid them. I avoid eggs because they have given me gut pains for as long as I can remember.
Anthony William believes eggs are bad due to:
- Cause inflammation and allergies
- Feed viruses, bacteria, yeast, mold, Candida, and other fungi
- Trigger edema in the lymphatic system
Avoid all forms of pork including nitrate-free bacon. He says it’s difficult to heal any chronic illness by consuming any kind of pig product. This is due to its high fat content.
He also says to avoid citric acid. The additive, not naturally occurring citric acid found in citrus. Citrus is healing, citric acid is often corn-derived.
The Paleo Diet

To heal MS you need to consume a wide variety of many different fruits and vegetables. If you currently follow a paleo-based diet you may be avoiding nightshades.
The Medical Medium claims nightshades don’t cause inflammation. Only the leaves and stems are toxic. However, you do need to avoid unripe fruits and vegetables in the nightshade shade family. Including green peppers and green tomatoes. Except for green zebra tomatoes which are green when ripe.
The Candida diet recommends you avoid fruit that is high in sugar. Again, the Medical Medium says this is wrong. He says all fruits are healing because they are high in antioxidants.
I began looking into this because I was one of those people, I feared eating fruit. I discovered a study that found fruit does not raise blood sugar in type 2 diabetics. The Medical Medium says “fruit is the most important food to eat when healing from disease.”

The Medical Medium diet is a plant-based diet. It includes a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. First thing in the morning you should drink lemon water. Then 15-30 minutes later drink 16-32 ounces of celery juice. For people with MS, he recommends 32 ounces each day.
In the book Medical Medium, there are many delicious recipes. Some of the recipes do include gluten-free grains and beans.
“Try eating a sliced ripe tomato on top of a bed of fresh spinach with lemon juice and avocado. Or eat them in salsa with mango, basil, and onion. When eaten in their natural form without harmful foods, they will actually bring you closer to healing, rather than holding you back from it.” – from the book Medical Medium
The Medical Medium says people with MS should eat wild blueberries every day. He says blueberries are the most powerful brain food in existence. They also are the “most potent prebiotic there is, and a star at restoring the liver.”
Wild blueberries have two times the antioxidants of conventional blueberries. You can find them in the frozen section in your grocery store.
The Medical Medium says the “Holy Four” foods for healing are:
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Herbs and spices
- Wild foods
Apples have phytochemicals making them a true brain food. They feed neurons and increase electrical activity.
Apples with red skin are responsible for detoxing heavy metals and radiation. They also help detoxify the brain of MSG. Apples help cleanse and purify organs and improve circulation in your lymphatic system. Try eating two or three red apples each day.
He has other essential foods for MS in his book Medical Medium.
28-Day Healing Cleanse

In the Medical Medium book, there is a “28-Day Healing Cleanse.” It includes a wide range of raw fruits and vegetables. It also includes avoiding meat (including fish) and eating low-fat. He says eating a low-fat diet will help you heal faster.
Dr. Roy Swank also believes people with MS should eat low-fat. In his book, The Multiple Sclerosis Diet Book, he recommends people avoid red meat for the first year.
If you have constipation, eating a diet that’s extremely high in fiber should fix it. If you have diarrhea you’ll need to adjust the diet to include more bananas and potatoes. You should also add more cooked meals (he recommends eating cooked meals at dinner.) Don’t worry, he has plenty of cooked meal recipes in his book.
The 28-day cleanse is a detailed menu plan with recipes. You can follow the menu precisely or customize it with other recipes he includes in his book.
Food I bought before starting the cleanse (besides fruit, vegetables, and herbs):
- Barley grass juice powder (it’s gluten-free)
- Dulse
- Lots of organic celery*
- Maple syrup
- Nori sheets
- Raw honey
- Spirulina
*Buy organic celery because nonorganic is high in pesticides plus it tastes bitter. I found Costco has the best organic celery and precut, which saves you time and energy. For some reason, it also tastes better than organic celery from other stores.
Tips for Doing the 28-Day Healing Cleanse
I have to admit, although the recipes are easy to make I felt like I was always preparing meals. If you struggle with standing you may want to ask someone for help. Plus, it’s easier if you do this cleanse with someone else for support.
Tips to make the 28-Day Healthy Cleanse easier:
- Prepare a whole day’s worth of meals when you have more energy
- Juice enough celery to last two days so you’re not juicing every day
- Juice enough lemons, limes, and oranges to last 2-3 days
- Buy enough groceries to last one week so you’re not constantly going to the store
- Buy a good quality masticating juicer (slow juicer)
In his book Brain Saver, he has a list of brain cell foods. He also has different “Brain Shots” that are highly absorbed and can reach the brain quickly. There are several he recommends for MS such as the Nerve Shifter. The book also includes many delicious recipes from breakfast to dessert.
The book has a Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie which he recommends people with MS drink every day. There’s also an Advanced Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie. This is to increase the pace of removing heavy metals.
Drink Plenty of Water
Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. People with MS tend to be chronically dehydrated due to bladder issues. This can lead to many health issues.
Have you ever had a nurse struggle to draw your blood? This is due to thicker blood caused by chronic dehydration. This can lead to heart issues, strokes, liver problems, and poor circulation.
The Medical Medium says chronic dehydration allows EBV to thrive. Having MS, it’s vital to stay as hydrated as possible. Also, when you’re properly hydrated, your body can remove toxins.
Ways to stay hydrated by consuming:
- Coconut water
- Filtered water
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Herbal teas
- Juicing
- Lemon water
- Smoothies
Aim for drinking two liters each day. If you struggle with bladder issues sip on water throughout the day. Drink more when you first get up so you’re not up all night rushing to the bathroom.
Kitchen Tools

Two kitchen appliances you will need are a masticating juicer (slow juicer) and a blender. A high-speed blender is nice but it’s not necessary. You also want a sharp chef’s knife and a sharp paring knife. There are other kitchen appliances that help make it easier but they aren’t necessary.
The first juicer I owned worked great until a little after two months. While juicing celery I heard a loud pop and noticed the juice was leaking out in a different spot. When I tried to take it apart it wouldn’t budge, taking a closer look I noticed there was a big crack in it.
Quality juicers are expensive but if you buy a less expensive juicer it may break within a few months. I ended up buying another juicer. This time I bought the Omega juicer that the Medical Medium recommends.
Other kitchen tools that help but aren’t necessary include:
- Apple corer/slicer
- Ceramic frying pan
- Citrus zester
- Colander
- Cut resistant gloves
- Cutting boards
- Food processor
- Food spiralizer
- Garlic peeler
- Garlic press
- Glass water bottle
- Handheld juicer
- Heat resistance gloves
- Herb saver
- Herb Scissors
- Kitchen Shears
- Mason jars with handles and glass straw
- Small blender such as a NutriBullet
- Steamer basket
Medical Medium Diet for MS
Is the Medical Medium diet right for you? That depends. Everyone is different so everyone will react differently to each diet. I discovered this years ago – there is no perfect diet.
Listen to your body and adjust whatever diet you are on to fit your needs.
Like all diets for MS, healing from a plant-based diet does not happen overnight. It will take time and a lot of discipline. You cannot do this halfway. Eating healthy all day and then eating junk food later will not work.
No matter what diet you follow, drastically changing your diet is hard. But your other option is letting MS continue to ravage your body. Stopping the progression of MS is your first goal. Having symptoms reversed is your second goal. And remember, the central nervous system is one of the slowest systems in the body to heal.
