A flaxseed egg is so quick and easy to make, it’s perfect for any recipe.
Eggs are one of the most highly allergenic foods which makes it hard on your gut and increases inflammation. If you’re making a recipe that calls for one egg there’s no need to worry.
Flaxseed egg is a simple-to-make egg substitute.
Use fresh ground whole flaxseeds, either golden or brown, you can find them on Amazon.
Your body does not absorb whole flaxseeds so you will need to grind them first. They do sell flaxseed meal such as Bob’s Red Meal Flaxseed Meal, which is ground flaxseed.
It’s okay to use flaxseed meal but it goes bad quickly which is why you should grind them yourself. Grind them to your desired consistency.
To grind the flaxseeds I use a coffee/seed grinder like this one from Amazon.
To make one “egg” add one tablespoon of freshly ground flaxseed to a bowl. Then add 3 tablespoons of room temperature water. Thoroughly mix then let it rest for 5 minutes to thicken.
After 5 minutes add it to recipes in place of 1 egg. This is not an exact egg substitution because it doesn’t bind as well as an egg does. But, it works great in recipes like tortillas, pizza crust, and such.
If your recipe calls for two eggs, double the recipe.
You can also use fresh ground chia seeds instead of flaxseeds.
