Autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis (MS) are increasing rapidly. One in every five Americans have one or more autoimmune disease. Approximately 75% of those are women. MS is not an autoimmune disease where the body is attacking itself. The cause of MS is due to environmental factors which lead to neurological symptoms.
Environmental factors include:
- Endocrine (hormones) disruptors including cosmetics and pesticides
- Heavy metals such as aluminum and mercury
- Pollutants including air, plastics, radioactive, soil, and water
- Solvents such as cleaning agents, fuels, and nail polish remover
- Toxic chemicals are in common products such as air fresheners and body care products
- Infections including bacteria and viruses
Multiple Sclerosis Is Viral
A 20-year study found Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is the main cause of MS. This means, the cause of MS is due to a common viral infection. Researchers say if they come out with a vaccine for EBV it could be the end of MS. However, that doesn’t help people who already have MS.
Possible triggers to MS:
- Diet (poor diet)
- Infections (bacterial, parasites, viruses, and yeast overgrowth)
- Environmental Toxins (heavy metals, mold, pesticides, etc.)
- Chronic Stress
- Hormones (adrenaline, cortisol, insulin, vitamin D – yes, it’s a hormone)
Everyone is different. What triggered my MS will be different than what triggered yours. You need to uncover the hidden sources of environmental toxins that triggered your MS. Then make informed choices for a toxin-free life.
The key to stopping MS is to remove everything that triggered it, to begin with. For most people, that includes everything on the list above.
Fight Disease Don’t Feed It
MS is not an autoimmune disease, it’s fighting pathogens, not itself. It’s fighting bacteria, chemical toxins, and viruses. Our world is highly toxic and it is the cause of neurological symptoms. Stop feeding your body foods that promote chronic inflammation.
If your body has low inflammation and a robust immune system it can fight these pathogens.
Foods to avoid:
- Dairy
- Gluten
- Refined sugar
- Artificial flavors and sweeteners
- Natural flavors
- Corn (it’s mostly a GMO)
- Soy (it’s mostly a GMO)
- MSG
- Canola oil (it’s mostly a GMO)
- Pork (it’s high in fat and prone to parasites)
- Farmed fish (it’s washed in toxic chemicals due to parasites)
- Citric acid (processed citric acid is mostly derived from corn – a GMO)
Instead load up on leafy greens, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. These are the foods that are healing and will reverse your neurological symptoms.
Foods to include:
- Leafy greens
- Vegetables
- Fruit
- Herbs
- Nuts
- Seeds
- Healthy oils
- Wild-caught fish
- Pasture-raised poultry
- Grass-fed meat
Choose organic produce as much as possible to avoid pesticides. If you can’t afford it, choose organic if it’s on the Dirty Dozen list. This is a list of fruits and vegetables with the most pesticides. Pair your commitment to eating healthy with a detoxifying living space. Creating a holistic approach to well-being that nourishes both your body and your environment.
Eat a Low Fat Diet
Lower your fats, which include animal fats and plant-based fats such as avocados. Your liver has a harder time working if you eat a high-fat diet. A high-fat diet increases inflammation especially one rich in saturated and trans fats.
I’m not saying avocados are bad for you. I’m saying eat fewer healthy fats. I followed a strict Paleo diet for over eight years which included eating more healthy fats. I thought it was helping my body. Instead, my blood work showed I was heading toward heart disease.
People with MS have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease. And, women have a higher risk of dying within one year of having a heart attack.
