This is a delicious and easy-to-make dairy-free coconut smoothie and it’s sugar-free.
Coconut milk is a common ingredient in many tropical cuisines. It has a mildly sweet taste similar to cow’s milk making it the perfect dairy substitute. Coconut milk comes from the inner white flesh of an older brown coconut, coconut water is the watery liquid from younger green coconuts.
If you’re trying to avoid sugar, even natural sugars, but craving something sweet then this is the perfect smoothie. This smoothie has high healthy fats from coconut milk which is very beneficial for your brain.
You can make your own coconut milk at home but I like “simple” so I buy it. I like the taste of Native Forest Organic Coconut Milk, although, it does have guar gum in it it’s from a BPA-free can. BPA can seep into your food and beverages causing health effects on the brain. It is also a hormone disruptor acting similar to estrogen and other hormones found in the human body.
Flaxseeds are full of omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. They are heart healthy, lower cholesterol, have digestive health, and are high in antioxidants. They’re also a huge part of recovery for Multiple Sclerosis. A large two-year study by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society showed “evidence pointing to benefits” after consuming omega-3 fatty acids.
Enjoy!
