The Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie by the Medical Medium (MM) is a blend of specific ingredients to help remove heavy metals. There are many factors to consider when you’re trying to heal from multiple sclerosis (MS). One of those factors is heavy metals, especially mercury. Mercury is a neurotoxin which means it’s poisonous to nerve tissue!
Mercury can enter the body through many sources, including:
- Consuming fish and shellfish. Larger fish such as mackerel and tuna contain higher levels of mercury. This is why I take a vegan omega 3. Regular omega 3 comes from fish oils like mackerel. Here’s what I take: Vimergy Vegan EPA/DHA
- Inhaling mercury vapors. When a product or device breaks with mercury breaks people can inhale the vapors. Workers can also inhale mercury vapors during industrial processes.
- Passes down through generations. Until the 20th century, people used mercury as medicine. It wasn’t until around 1991 that household appliances stopped using mercury. Many products have removed mercury, but it’s still in use today. Examples include drain cleaners, oven cleaners, and bleach. Mercury is also used in paints, soaps, and fluorescent lighting. Ancestors exposed to mercury can pass it on to you.
- Skin contact. Mercury can enter the body through skin contact. Examples include skin-lightening creams and soaps.
- Using dental amalgam fillings. Dental amalgam fillings (silver fillings) contain mercury. It’s best to speak with a biological dentist (holistic dentist) about your options.
- Using medicines or vaccines. Medicines or vaccines can contain mercury. For example, thimerosal in flu vaccines and gadolinium in MRI contrast.
The Medical Medium
In 2022, a study said the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was the main cause of MS. I knew MM talked a lot about EBV so I decided to read his book. In the book, there’s a big section about MS and the importance of removing heavy metals. It also says EBV feeds on heavy metals which creates more toxic waste.
He promotes eating lots of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices along with supplements. – That’s exactly what YOU should be doing!
Wild blueberries are an essential food to consume while healing from MS. They contain many health benefits, including restoring and calming the nerves.”

Five Key Ingredients

The five key ingredients in the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie support the body’s natural detoxification processes, including the removal of heavy metals. Wild blueberries are rich in antioxidants, which help protect your body from damage caused by harmful substances. Cilantro supports the adrenals and it’s antibacterial and antiviral. Spirulina is a type of algae that provides nutrients and helps boost your immune system. Barley grass juice powder is packed with vitamins and minerals that support overall health. Atlantic dulse, a type of seaweed, is a good iodine source and helps detoxify.
- Atlantic Dulse
- Barley Grass Juice Powder (it’s gluten-free)
- Cilantro
- Spirulina
- Wild Blueberries
There’s also an Advanced Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie. You can find the recipe in the book Brain Saver Protocols, Cleanses & Recipes: For Neurological, Autoimmune & Mental Health.
Benefits of Cilantro

I decided to give the smoothie a try and the taste is not bad. It contains cilantro, which I wasn’t a fan of but I got used to it. According to MM, “Cilantro can mobilize mercury rapidly from the brain and central nervous system.” He also says cilantro is very helpful for people with MS.
It’s best to consume organic cilantro to avoid pesticides. However, I found organic cilantro isn’t always available. You could use cilantro tincture or extract, but that gets expensive. I heard a tip from somewhere to juice the cilantro and then freeze it in ice cube trays. – Good idea! You would need approximately 7-8 ice cubes from standard trays for one tightly packed cup of cilantro juice.
When a person perceives an abrupt, harsh flavor from the herb, it means that she or he has a higher oxidative rate of heavy metals in her or his system. This doesn’t mean the person possesses a higher level of toxic heavy metals. Rather, the heavy metals (in this case, usually a combination of aluminum, nickel, and/or copper, at whatever level) in her or his body are corroding rapidly. Corrosion means that there’s toxic runoff, which makes its way into a person’s lymphatic system and saliva. The moment cilantro makes contact with the mouth, its phytochemicals start to bind onto any oxidative runoff they encounter—if there’s a lot of this debris in a person’s saliva, it can result in a harsh sensation when eating cilantro. In other words, if someone dislikes cilantro, there’s a good chance she or he really needs it.”
– Anthony William
Benefits of cilantro include:
- Antibacterial, antiparasitic, and antiviral
- Detoxifies the liver and brain
- Fights EBV, shingles, HIV, and more
- Helps prevent brain fog and memory issues
- Helps support blood glucose levels
- Lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol and raises HDL (good) cholesterol
- Supports the adrenal glands
Prepare Ahead
Juice enough oranges ahead of time to last three days. – This saves time and energy from juicing every day. If you don’t have fresh squeezed orange juice, use the entire orange.
This is the juicer I use to make orange juice: BLACK+DECKER 32oz Citrus Juicer
Make sure you use ripe bananas. Not green bananas or overly ripe bananas. Keep frozen ripe bananas in the freezer to use whenever. They come in handy if you don’t have fresh ripe bananas.

Enjoy!
