Christmas is a hectic time of year for most, and it’s tough when you’re eating healthy and there are processed goodies all around us. Fortunately, there are plenty of paleo snacks to keep you from feeling left out.
When I first went gluten & dairy-free, more than 10 years ago, I felt so left out around holidays. Everyone would be enjoying treats that I couldn’t eat, I felt sorry for myself, and sometimes I would just leave the room. I eventually decided to start bringing my own paleo snacks to parties, and I didn’t feel left out. At first, I thought people would give me a hard time, but everyone was very supportive.
When out shopping or getting stuck in the Christmas traffic or any time of the year it’s very easy to lose track of time, and the next thing you know you haven’t eaten in hours. That’s when it’s so tempting to grab whatever you can and devour it, but as your body is healing you don’t want to take a step backward.
Today I always bring snacks with me, I don’t want to be out and about for hours with no food to eat. This has saved me many times, so I want to share with you some snack ideas you can carry with you and some you can keep around the house or your desk at work.
12 Quick Paleo Snack Ideas to carry with you:
- Fresh fruit
- Vegetable sticks
- Fruit Chips – apple, apricot, banana, etc.
- Beef Jerky
- Kale Chips
- Larabar – these are great for on-the-go, check the label, not all are paleo-friendly
- Pumpkin Seeds
- Raw Nuts – soak all nuts and then dry them to remove phytates and enzyme inhibitors for your digestive health
- Seasnax
- Sweet Potato Chips or Fries
- Trail Mix – make your own add your own roasted nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried coconut flakes, dark chocolate pieces
- Zucchini Chips
Paleo snacks to keep around the house or to pack when going on a trip:
- Can of Sardines – make sure the can is BPA-free and there is no soy, I buy WildPlanet at Amazon or Costco
- Can of Albacore Tuna – WildPlanet at Amazon or Costco
- Can of Wild Alaskan Pink Salmon – WildPlanet at Amazon or Costco
- Fruit Salad – just mix in some strawberries, an orange, blueberries, apple slices, coconut flakes, and any fruit you want, you can also add “coconut whipped cream” using coconut milk
- Grilled or Roasted Fruit – sprinkle cinnamon on it, it helps lower blood sugar
- Nut Butter – good on apples, celery, whatever you desire
